Alipay+ sees tourist spending rise on foreign e-wallet use
Beauty clinic transactions and transportation transactions rose during the year.
Alipay+ saw its total payment volume (TPV) rise 16% year-on-year (YoY) in South Korea on more tourists using partner wallets and banking apps to make digital payments in the country.
The number of Alipay+ supported QR code transactions rose by 18% YoY, it added.
Alipay+ transactions for beauty clinic treatments, transportation, and food & beverage F&B were reportedly amongst the fastest-growing categories for tourists, the payment network providers said in a press release on 9 December 2025.
Notably, beauty clinic transactions rose 90% YoY, with TPV rising by 123%.
Transportation transactions grew 120% YoY whilst TPV grew 23%.
Tourists made the greatest number of Alipay+ supported transactions in Seoul, Jeju Island, and Busan, it added.
Top e-wallets used are Alipay (mainland China), AlipayHK (Hong Kong), Touch ‘n Go e-wallet (Malaysia), PayPay (Japan), Mpay (Macao), and GCash (The Philippines).
