Standard Chartered appoints Mike Garcia as head of Hong Kong equities sales trading
Standard Chartered announced the appointments of Mike Garcia as Head of Hong Kong Equities Sales Trading, and Jamie White as Director, Equities Sales Trading. Both Mike and Jamie are based in Hong Kong and will report to Richard Stone, Global Head of Equities Sales Trading. In their new roles, Mike and Jamie will contribute to the Bank’s efforts to expand the Cash Equities Sales Trading platform in Hong Kong. This aligns to our ambition to meet the growing needs of our clients as we continue to build capabilities. Mike brings more than 15 years of sales and trading experience to Standard Chartered. Prior to joining the Bank, he was Head of Hong Kong Sales Trading at Barclays Capital. Mike also previously worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ITG Securities, Macquarie Bank and Kim Eng Securities. Jamie also joins Standard Chartered from Barclays Capital, where he was most recently Director, Equity Sales Trading. He previously held a similar role at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Commenting on the appointments, Tim Andrew, Global Head of Cash Equities, said, “We are very pleased to welcome both Mike and Jamie to the Bank. Standard Chartered appoints Zhang Su as equity research analyst for emerging companies
Standard Chartered announced the appointment of Zhang Su as Equity Research Analyst, Emerging Companies. Su is based in Hong Kong and reports jointly to Jeremy Sutch, Head of Emerging Companies Research, and Erwin Sanft, Head of Hong Kong/China Equity Research. In this role, Su will be responsible for covering Emerging Companies in China and Hong Kong. His appointment follows that of Sumit Choudhary, Head of Emerging Companies Research in India, as the Bank rounds up our regional Emerging Companies team. Su joins Standard Chartered from Exane BNP Paribas in London, where he most recently worked as an equity strategist focusing on China. He was previously located in Shanghai, where he held roles at Standard Chartered and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Commenting on Su’s appointment, Jeremy Sutch said, “We are very pleased to welcome Zhang Su back to the Bank, bringing with him best practices from other institutions. I look forward to his contribution as we continue to expand and deepen our equity research capability to meet increasing demands from our clients.”

Maybank announced that Encik Mohamed Rafique Merican Mohd Wahiduddin Merican has been appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the Bank effective 5 June 2013. Rafique will oversee the overall running of the day-to-day operations of the Maybank Group until the appointment of a President & CEO to succeed Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, whose appointment as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department will also become effective on the same day.

In a statement, Standard Chartered announced the appointment of Philip Tulk as Conglomerates, Hotels and Gaming Analyst. Philip is based in Hong Kong and reports jointly to John Chan, Head of HK/China Property, Conglomerates & Gaming Research and Erwin Sanft, Head of China/HK Equity Research. In this role, Philip will be responsible for covering the greater China gaming and hotels sector. He will also work closely with John Chan to provide a strategic view of the Hong Kong conglomerates sector. Philip joins the Bank from Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was head of the Asian conglomerates and gaming research. He brings more than 15 years of sell-side experience to Standard Chartered, having previously held roles at Lehman Brothers, DBS, and HSBC. Welcoming Philip to the Bank, Erwin Sanft said, “Philip’s addition to the team demonstrates our commitment to delivering a compelling research value proposition to our clients. I believe Philip’s wealth of experience will be invaluable in bringing our capabilities and service offerings to a new level.
