CIMB Niaga AirAsia BIG co-branded credit card unveiled in Indonesia

Frequent travellers are being targeted.

PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk (CIMB Niaga), PT Indonesia AirAsia (AirAsia Indonesia), and Think BIG Digital Sdn Bhd (BIG) have launched the CIMB Niaga AirAsia BIG co-branded credit card in Jakarta, with the theme “Holiday On Us”, targetting frequent travellers in Indonesia.

According to a joint release from CIMB Niaga and AirAsia Indonesia, The launch was officiated by Arwin Rasyid, President Director of CIMB Niaga; Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia; Sunu Widyatmoko, CEO of AirAsia Indonesia; Alice Goh, CEO of Think BIG Digital; and Ellyana Fuad, President Director of Visa Worldwide Indonesia.

Arwin Rasyid, President Director of CIMB Niaga, said that in the midst of a very competitve credit card industry, there is a need to create breakthrough and innovative products to cater to the needs of the market.

As the travelling industry in Indonesia continues to grow, CIMB Niaga saw an increasing market demand for online ticket purchases using credit card.

As of end of June 2014, CIMB Niaga has issued more than 1.6 million credit cards, representing a market share of 10.8% in Indonesia.

“As such, this partnership with AirAsia Indonesia and Think BIG Digital for a co-branded credit card on Visa Worldwide‟s platform will create a strong synergy for all parties,” said Arwin.

Arwin added that CIMB Niaga has previously collaborated with AirAsia Indonesia in 2010 to launch the CIMB Niaga AirAsia Savers account. As of end of August 2014, total number of CIMB Niaga AirAsia Savers accounts has surpased 132,000 accounts.

Meanwhile, Sunu Widyatmoko, CEO of AirAsia Indonesia, said, “We welcome the collaboration with our partner CIMB Niaga to rollout this co-branded credit card as it continues to provide convenience and privileges to all our loyal AirAsia customers in Indonesia.

The issuance of the CIMB Niaga AirAsia BIG credit card is a step in improving our loyalty programme for our customers as well as in making AirAsia Indonesia the "top of mind‟ airline.”

“As we all know, CIMB Niaga is one of the leading private-sector banks in Indonesia that is known for its attractive and innovative credit card offers and features. Furthermore, CIMB Niaga also has an extensive network in major cities in Indonesia where AirAisa Indonesia operates in.

As such, we believe this co-branded credit card will see an increase in AirAsia‟s customer base as a result of AirAsia BIG membership subscrition as well as from CIMB Niaga‟s credit card members,” Sunu added.
