Zaharrudin to replace retiring Ahmad as Maybank chair

Maybank Chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Basir bin Ahmad will not seek reappointment at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting on 30 September and will retire. Maybank has obtained the approval of Bank Negara Malaysia to appoint Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor as the new Chairman of Maybank effective 1 October 2009.

Wong is HSBC China's new Deputy CEO and Director

HSBC Bank China appointed Helen Wong as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Board with immediate effect.

DBS appoints Piyush Gupta as CEO

DBS has appointed veteran banker Piyush Gupta, 49, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). A Singapore permanent resident, Gupta spent over two-thirds of his 27-year career in South East Asia and Hong Kong, including eight years in Singapore. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval, and he will join the bank in November.

Eliathamby and others appointed to Maybank board

Maybank appointed Mr. Sreesanthan Eliathamby, Dato’ Johan Ariffin, Mr Cheah Teik Seng and Mr Alister Maitland to its Board of Directors effective 26 August.

Tsang is SC's chairperson for Greater China

Standard Chartered Bank China has appointed Katherine Tsang as Chairperson for Greater China.   In her new role, Katherine will help capture opportunities in Greater China with respect to trade flows, capital investment and talent development. Katherine will also continue to help deliver the Bank’s overarching strategy in China.

Jalil, Shahudin and Wai appointed to Maybank board

Maybank appointed three directors to the Board, namely Tan Sri Datuk Dr Hadenan Jalil, Dato’ Seri Ismail Shahudin and Dato’ Dr Tan Tat Wai. It is effective 15 July 2009.

Mackay, Ancona swap roles at HSBC

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has appointed Iain J Mackay, 47, as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 September 2009. He succeeds Edgar Ancona, 57, who will take up Mr Mackay’s position as CFO of HSBC’s North American operations. Both these appointments are subject to remaining internal approvals.

ANZ appointed Joyce Phillips as Group Managing Director Strategy, M&A, Marketing and Innovation and will be part of ANZ’s Management Board.

Siam Commercial Bank named Associate Professor Dr. Kulpatra Sirodom to serve as an Independent Director and member of the Audit Committee. This is pursuant to Mr. Tiraphot Vajrabhaya's resignation.

Yuen and Mohan are new ANZ heads for HK and NW Pacific

ANZ appointed Susan Yuen and Vishnu Mohan as Chief Executive Officers of Hong Kong and North West Pacific, respectively. Mohan will also be ANZ’s Managing Director in Papua New Guinea.

Maia named CEO of HSBC Australia

HSBC has appointed Paulo Maia, currently Deputy CEO of HSBC Brazil, as CEO of HSBC Bank Australia. The new appointment will come into effect on 1 July 2009. Paulo Maia replaces Stuart Davis, who has been appointed CEO of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in India.

Sit to sit as Hang Seng China CEO

Mrs Dorothy K Y P Sit, Director of Hang Seng China, will be appointed as Chief Executive of Hang Seng China. She is currently General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Hang Seng Bank.She will replace Mr Johnson Fu, Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank China Limited, who has resigned for personal reasons. Fu joined Hang Seng Bank as Deputy General Manager and Head of China Business in 2005. He became Chief Executive of Hang Seng China when it was set up in May 2007.Sit began her career with The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in 1976 after receiving her Master of Business Administration degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.She worked in a variety of positions in retail banking, operations and systems, mainland China project finance, products and services development, marketing, savings and retail investments. She was appointed Senior Executive Deputy Head of Personal Financial Services in 2002, with responsibility for customer service and sales delivery in Hong Kong.In January 2004, Sit was appointed Head of Personal Financial Services, Hong Kong, with responsibility for overseeing The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited's personal financial services development in Hong Kong. She was appointed Director of Bank of Shanghai in 2004-2005.Sit joined Hang Seng Bank in December 2005 as General Manager. She was appointed Chief Operating Officer in January 2006, and Director of Hang Seng Bank (China) Ltd in June 2007.

Cheang to replace Engel as HSBC regional director

Louisa Cheang, currently Head of Personal Financial Services Hong Kong, leads the list of HSBC’s senior executive appointments, which are still subject to board and regulatory approvals. She is slated to succeed Mr. Conrado Engel as Regional Director Personal Financial Services, Asia-Pacific effective 1 June 2009.

Hang Seng's CFO to resign

Patrick K W Chan will resign as the Hang Seng Bank's Chief Financial Officer effective 8 July 2009. He will pursue other career prospects outside the financial industry and will not offer himself for re-election at the Bank’s annual general meeting to be held on 6 May 2009. Hence he will cease to be an Executive Director of the Bank.

Bank Julius Baer taps 2 senior managers

Thio (Henry) Tjia Hin and Cindy Tang were appointed as senior relationship managers in Singapore by the Bank Julius Baer. In this capacity, they will further develop the bank's client base in the South East Asian market.
