SMBC names Luis Pereira as co-regional CIO for APAC

He will partner with Fumitaka Kato, co-regional CIO for APAC.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) announced that Luis Pereira has joined the bank as co-regional chief information officer (CIO) for its Asia Pacific Division.

Pereira is tasked with leading the bank’s digital transformation, enhancing resiliency, and driving innovation in financial technology to strengthen SMBC’s competitive position. He will be based in Singapore.

Pereira will partner with Fumitaka Kato, co-regional CIO of the APAC Division.

Pereira brings 30 years of experience working in the banking industry across Singapore, London, and Hong Kong.

He will report to Takashi Yamaguchi, head of governance planning department, Asia Pacific Division; Hideki Takamatsu, group CIO; and Nobuyuki Takiguchi, group deputy CIO.
