Security Bank boosts women in tech through mentorship

Gender diversity in tech is on the rise.

Security Bank is ramping up its efforts to foster gender diversity within its technology teams, with a special focus on empowering women through structured support and mentoring.

Nishy De Silva, Senior Vice President, Shared Services CTO at Security Bank, noted that significant progress has been made in eliminating biases in technology roles. "Gender diversity today is no longer a very significant bias. Over the past years, women have proven themselves to be equivalently capable of technology roles," said De Silva.

She said that the bank's priority this year is women in technology. "I have learned from them that they do need mentoring. They need the support structure behind them to understand how they can keep up with the pace of tech," De Silva explained.

When asked for advice for women aspiring to leadership roles in technology, De Silva emphasised the importance of confidence and mentorship. "As a woman, never deem yourself as non-equivalent. Everyone is equally capable with the right mindset and guidance," she said.

Security Bank continues to undergo significant technological transformation. "We’ve heavily invested in uplifting our resources, we’ve grown significantly, and we’ve also positioned ourselves to have the right tools and processes in place with the mindset of really transforming and innovating," De Silva explained.

One development was the recent launch of a mobile app, aimed at enhancing the customer experience for retail clients. This app will soon expand to serve corporate and medium-sized enterprises (MSEs). Additionally, the bank has adopted Gen AI for its operations, particularly in observability and monitoring, ensuring that infrastructures are always available and customer service remains uninterrupted.

"We continue to look into Gen AI open banking and embedded finances as examples of technology transformation," De Silva concluded.
