Chart of the Week: What's dragging Malaysian banks' loan growth?

Non-household loan growth slowed to 2.2%.

Maybank Kim Eng reports that industry loan growth slipped almost 1-ppt to 4.2% YoY in Aug 2016 from 5.1% YoY in Jul 2016. HH loan growth was stable YoY at 5.7% but non-HH loan growth slowed to just 2.2% YoY from 4.3% YoY in Jul 2016.

"Positively, annualized loan growth was stable and picked-up pace slightly to 2.8% versus 2.6% the month before. Annualized HH loans growth was a faster 4.5% versus 4.3% in July while annualized non-HH loans growth was 0.6% versus 0.5% in July."
