Hyundai Card leads Korea’s credit card sales with PLCC dominance and data science

It holds a 78% market share in the private label credit card sector.

South Korea’s Hyundai Card achieved credit sales of KRW166.3t in 2024, 11% higher than a year earlier, and making it the top credit card company in terms of sales for the year, according to data from the Credit Finance Association of Korea.

In a statement, Hyundai Card attributed this in part to its ability to achieve success in both the general-purpose credit card (GPCC) and private label credit card (PLCC) sectors, unlike other credit card brands.

In Korea, Hyundai Card reportedly stands as the leading issuer of PLCCs, with a 78% market share. The proportion of its PLCC members has also risen from just 10% in 2018 to 44% in 2025.

Hyundai Card also highlighted its data science capabilities for the growth of its GPCC and PLCC businesses, having invested KRW1t over the past decade to develop this as well as AI capabilities.

In 2024, Hyundai Card secured a contract to export UNIVERSE to the Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company in Japan. UNIVERSE is Hyundai Card’s proprietary personalised AI platform.
