Bhuchar joins from Partior, a JV by Temasek, DBS, JP Morgan and StanChart.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has appointed Atul Bhuchar as head of transaction banking product, Asia Pacific division.

Bhuchar, who is based in Singapore, will support SMBC clients in effectively managing their working capital requirements to strengthen the clients’ value chains and grow their businesses.

In his role, Bhuchar will lead SMBC’s Asia Pacific transaction banking team for cash and trade products, managing its product development programs and the life cycle of new products and services, including commercialization and customizations, SMBC said in a press release announcing the appointment.

Bhuchar joins SMBC from Partior, a joint venture by Temasek, DBS, JP Morgan, and Standard Chartered. Bhuchar was head of product at Patior, where he reportedly worked on leveraging next generation blockchain technology and regulated digital currencies.

He brings over 27 years of experience in his new role, having held senior product-focused roles in financial institutions including DBS, HSBC, and Citibank.

Bhuchar reports to Shinichiro Yamazaki, head of global transaction banking department for APAC.
