Bank Negara Malaysia names Nor Shamsiah Deputy Governor
Experiences during Asian financial crisis and the preparation and implementation of the Financial Sector Masterplan for the development of the Malaysian financial system earned her the post.
Bank Negara Malaysia has appointed Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus as Deputy Governor for a three-year tenure beginning on Tuesday.
She replaces Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani, who retires on Monday, after having served the central bank for more than 39 years.
In a statement on Monday, BNM said Nor Shamsiah, who joined the central bank in 1987, has an extensive experience in the development of prudential regulation, legislation, policies and guidelines for the financial sector.
She was also involved in the financial sector resolution initiatives during the Asian financial crisis and the preparation and implementation of the Financial Sector Masterplan for the development of the Malaysian financial system from 2001 to 2010.
Prior to this appointment, Nor Shamsiah was the Assistant Governor responsible for the supervision of financial institutions under the purview of BNM and oversees the risk management department of the central bank.
