Australia’s central bank names first-ever COO

Susan Woods has served as Assistant Governor (Corporate Services) at RBA since 2018.

Australia’s central bank has appointed Susan Woods in the newly created role of chief operating officer (COO), beginning 4 March.

As COO, Woods will work alongside the Deputy Governor to ensure coordination between policy, operational and organisational decision-making, the RBA said in an announcement.

Woods has been the Assistant Governor (Corporate Services) at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) since 2018, with responsibility for Information Technology and Workplace and the Enterprise Data Office.

Prior to joining the RBA in 2018, she held various roles in the private sector for over 30 years. Notably, she was general manager of business technology & transformation at StatePlus, where she was responsible for information technology, the design and implementation of a new operating model for the business, and the enterprise strategic project portfolio. 

Before Woods was a partner at Deloitte in strategy and operations consulting and has held senior roles with Capgemini and Ernst & Young. 

Woods is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
