Mizuho to help deploy AI to study Hachijo’s humpback whales

The project will run from May to October 2024.

Mizuho Financial Group has teamed up with Fujitsu and Hachijo Town to deploy AI-based image recognition technology to study humpback whale migration and conservation in Hachijo Island.

The entities plan to use the data to promote ethical tourism and better grasp trends in humpback whale migration in the island.

Mizuho–the only major financial institution operating in the island– will make use of its finance and digital technology to promote a variety of initiatives. These include digitalisation of government processes and tourism promotion.
