MUFG deploys real-time anonymization across unstructured data

On-premises processing keeps MUFG data off external clouds

Mitsubishi UFJ Bank (MUFG) has adopted a data anonymisation solution from privacy technology firm Private AI for its big data platform, OCEAN.

The solution operates in real time within MUFG’s on-premises environment, ensuring sensitive information remains within the bank’s internal systems and is not sent to external cloud platforms.

The technology automatically detects and anonymises personally identifiable and confidential information in unstructured data.

This includes emails, call centre logs, internal documents, PDFs, and chat records, before the data is integrated into its platform.

MUFG plans to extend the use of the technology beyond OCEAN to areas including call centre operations, fraud detection, risk management, and internal knowledge sharing.

Before full deployment, MUFG conducted technical testing using unstructured data files that simulated actual business operations.

The solution allows company-wide cross-sectional analysis and the use of general and operational AI using unstructured data, the bank said.
