Hyundai Card completes cross-border stablecoin transfer in 7 minutes
The proof of concept converted $20,000 to USDT and back.
Hyundai Card has enabled stablecoin use between Hyundai Motor’s US and Mexico entities, with the process taking seven minutes.
The South Korean card company has completed a proof of concept using stablecoins to transfer funds between Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Mexico, according to an announcement on 9 July 2026.
The proof of concept converted $20,000 from the US unit into stablecoin USDT, then transferred the stablecoin to Hyundai Motor Mexico, which then converted it back to US dollars.
Hyundai Card worked with Hyundai Motor to review accounting, tax, legal, internal control, and regulatory requirements for overseas entities.
The Hyundai entities also worked with Tether, the issuer of the stablecoin USDT, for the proof of concept.
A second proof of concept is scheduled for later in July, this time to be conducted by Hyundai Motor’s Europe entities. It will involve actual remittances based on currencies other than the US dollar. Circle and Visa will participate in this second proof of concept.
