Cambodia, Visa launch Bakong tourist app

Tourists can use the app to pay at 4.5 million merchants in Cambodia.

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has launched a Bakong-tied tourist app in partnership with Visa.

The tourists can use the app to pay using KHQR code in about 4.5 million merchants in Cambodia.

Using the app, international tourists can create Bakong accounts and connect their Visa cards issued in their home countries.

The app is expected to enable international tourists to ‘seamlessly’ transact using digital payments while in Cambodia.

NBC Governor H.E. Dr. Chea Serey presided over the launch on 22 January 2025.

On November 2024, the NBC also enabled QR code payments using select international e-wallets through a partnership with Alipay+.
