Bakong system users can pay using JPQR, and Japanese users can eventually pay through the KHQR.
The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the Payments Japan Association (PJA) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cross-border QR code payments between the two countries.
Under this collaboration, Cambodia’s KHQR and Japan’s JPQR will enable payments between the two countries.
In Phase 1, Cambodian users of the Bakong system can make payments in Japan by scanning JPQR. In Phase 2, Japanese users will be able to pay in Cambodia by scanning KHQR.
The NBC has appointed ACLEDA Bank and Sathapana Bank as sponsoring banks for the cross-border QR code payment with Japan.
Meanwhile, the PJA named NETSTARS as the payment and settlement operator for QR code payments with Cambodia.
