NAB nabs Llyods UK banker as new group chief for digital, data, AI

Pete Steel previously spent 16 years at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

National Australia Bank (NAB) has appointed Pete Steel as group executive, digital, data & artificial intelligence.

Steel is tasked with leading the Australian bank’s digital, data, and AI teams and initiatives. He will also be in charge of design, customer onboarding, and NAB’s digital bank ubank.

Steel is currently managing director, customer engagement, at Llyords Banking Group in the UK. He leads a division of approximately 16,000 people responsible for consumer sales and service, digital, artificial intelligence, personalisation, branches, call centres and advisers, NAB said in its press release.

Prior to joining Lloyds, he founded fintech startup Expertli and served as a senior adviser on digital transformation at Boston Consulting Group.

Previously, he spent 16 years at Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in executive roles including group chief digital officer.

Steel reports to NAB Group CEO Andrew Irvine.
