Hang Seng Bank, CCB launch e-CNY merchant payment service in Hong Kong
Consumers can now pay with their e-CNY wallets in more than 100 local merchants.
Hang Seng Bank is collaborating with China Construction Bank (CCB) to launch an e-CNY merchant payment collection service in Hong Kong.
Consumers are now able to pay with their e-CNY wallets at more than 100 local merchants via Hang Seng’s payment collection system, according to an announcement on 10 November 2025.
Payments are processed by presenting a payment code in the e-CNY App or the CCB mobile banking for scanning.
Transactions are completed without converting RMB to HKD, with Hang Seng Bank, Hang Seng China and CCB jointly facilitating cross-boundary settlements for participating merchants.
This follows Hang Seng’s rollout of e-CNY wallet top-up services via FPS last year.
Rannie Lee, HSB’s head of wealth and personal banking, said that their goal is to encourage broader e-CNY adoption in Hong Kong whilst strengthening the city’s role as a global offshore RMB hub.
“Building on last year’s launch of e-CNY wallet top-ups via FPS, we have been evaluating various practical solutions. We are excited to partner with China Construction Bank and are pleased to bring e-CNY payment acceptance to Hong Kong’s retail sector,” Lee said in a press release.
