Airwallex buys Paynuri to enter South Korea payments market
It plans to hire 20 employees in the market in 2026.
Airwallex has acquired Paynuri Co. Ltd., a financial technology (fintech) company based in South Korea.
Paynuri holds a payment gateway license and prepaid electronic payment instrument license as well as a foreign exchange business registration.
Airwallex plans to offer its global business accounts, payments services, and cash management services to South Korean businesses, and has plans to hire 20 employees in Korea by year-end.
This acquisition marks a pivotal milestone in Airwallex’s global expansion, according to APAC general manager Arnold Chan.
“Korea’s fast-growing ecommerce, creative and entertainment sectors present immense opportunities for Korean businesses on the global stage. Our goal is to support these businesses with a more efficient solution to expand beyond borders,” Chan said in a press release published on 21 January 2026.
Amongst services Airwallex plans to offer include its multi-currency account that can manage global banking, FX conversion, and international transfers.
Airwallex will also offer payment services that enable online and in-store payments with international cards and over 160 local payment methods.
Customers will have access to a single platform that can manage all types of company spend across customers’ global business. These include multicurrency corporate and employee cards, expense management capabilities, and bill payments, according to the press release.
