MUFG and JICT to jointly promote autonomous driving deployment
The two companies have invested in US-based May Mobility.
MUFG Bank has committed to promote initiatives to accelerate the deployment of autonomous driving, following its investment in May Mobility last June 2025.
May Mobility is a US-based autonomous vehicle technology company operating in both Japan and the US.
MUFG will promote autonomous driving in partnership with the Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services Inc. (JICT).
MUFG expects autonomous driving technology to address critical social challenges such as population decline, aging societies, and labor shortages in transportation, it said in a press release published on 26 February 2026.
Since its investment in 2025, MUFG said that it has supported May Mobility’s business expansion and initiatives towards the realization of autonomous driving.
Activities including building public understanding of autonomous driving through forums and industry dialogues, facilitating stakeholder collaboration by leveraging its network, and addressing financial challenges in the deployment of the service, MUFG said.
JICT, which also invested in May Mobility, will support the strengthening of May Mobility’s business, and the verification and phased development of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT).
MUFG and JICTsaid they aim to systematically identify technical, regulatory, and operational challenges and develop countermeasures.
