Westpac poaches Macquarie CIO to lead digital transformation

Richard Heeley will join Westpac later in 2026.

Westpac has appointed Richard Heeley as chief information officer (CIO).

Heeley is currently CIO, banking and financial services, at Macquarie Group.

Westpac CEO Anthony Miller said that Heeley will lead the next phase of Westpac's digital transformation, and that Heeley has experience building and leading a digital bank.

Heeley is expected to work closely with the UNITE, Data, Digital, and AI teams of Westpac.

He previously worked at the UK’s Nationwide Building Society, Barclays, and JPMorgan Chase.

“Richard has deep experience building and running critical platforms at scale, and he knows what it takes to simplify systems, improve resilience and deliver a first-class digital banking experience for customers,” Miller said in a statement.
