Arundhati Bhattacharya to be named CEO of State Bank of India

Will be first woman CEO of India’s largest lender.

Bhattacharya will replace Pratip Chaudhuri who retired yesterday, September 30. She will serve as CEO for three years. Finance Minister P Chidambaram has approved Bhattacharya nomination but the proposal is currently with the Appointments Committee of Cabinet. The announcement is likely to be officially made once Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gives his final assent after his return next week from a state visit to the USA. Bhattacharya is currently managing director and chief financial officer, She joined SBI in 1977 as a direct recruit officer.
