Orix to acquire 6% of Cambodia’s largest commercial bank

Will be largest Japanese investment in Cambodian banking sector.

Japanese financial services provider Orix Corporation will acquire over 6% of Acleda Bank plc. Acleda Bank president In Channy said the Orix investment has been approved by the National Bank of Cambodia, the central bank, and that the process is almost complete.

Channy called Orix “a strategic investor that can bring expertise.” He noted that Orix is buying the stake because of Acleda Bank’s capacity. Based in Phnom Penh, Acleda Bank has 236 offices in all Cambodian provinces and 25 offices in the Laos. It is the largest domestic commercial bank in terms of total assets and number of clients.
