Banks push remote work for Hong Kong staff as COVID cases rise anew

City officials have detected 40 local cases on 14 July.

HSBC and Standard Chartered have advised their Hong Kong staff to work from home as COVID-19 cases spike again in the city, reports Bloomberg.

In an internal memo, HSBC told staff to work from home until further notice if their role is feasible for remote work. Those who must work at bank premises must discuss working arrangements such as staggered arrivals and lunch times.

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered has encouraged a “hard split team” approach in place.

City officials said they detected 40 local cases on 14 July, bringing the total outbreak to 224 people in about a week.
