Citi targets APAC insurance investments with new senior hires

They have poached two BofA bankers to help lead its FIG group.

Citi has appointed a new global head of insurance and a managing director for specialty finance for its financial institutions investment banking (FIG) group.

The bank is targeting the increased mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and financing activity across various insurance sectors in the Asia Pacific region, according to a press statement on 13 May 2026. These include

Jonathan Alpert will join Citi in September as global head of insurance. He comes from Bank of America (BofA), where he was co-head of global insurance.

Alpert’s work focuses on global insurance groups. He has past experience advising cross-border insurance transactions, according to Citi.

Ryan Willingham, meanwhile, will join Citi as a managing director covering specialty finance. He also joins from BofA, where he led coverage of the specialty finance sector within BofA’s financial institutions group.

Willingham joins Citi in August.
