Mastercard contactless payments land on Hong Kong's Airport Express

The company first rolled out contactless card payments in MTR in 2023.

Mastercard can now be used to make contactless payments in Hong Kong’s Airport Express.  

Mastercard cardholders can tap their contactless credit or debit cards, or payment-enabled smart devices at the new Airport Express entry and exit gates

Mastercard recorded over 2.3 million contactless card payments on Hong Kong’s local transit in the first four months of 2026, a 55% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

The company first rolled out contactless bank card payments in nine MTR lines in 2023.

Mastercard contactless payments are now accepted in Star Ferry, Tramways, buses except the New Lantao Bus routes, Peak Tram, the entire MTR heavy rail network, and select ferries and taxis.
