Bank of East Asia closes 20 branches due to coronavirus

ATMs located within closed branches will also be unavailable.

Bank of East Asia (BEA) is closing 20 branches starting 1 February until further notice amidst the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, according to a press release.

Branches that will be temporarily closed include Causeway Bay The Sharp, Shek Tong Tsui, Shun Tak Centre, The University of Hong Kong, and Wanchai Convention Plaza in Hong Kong Island; Festival Walk, Hong Kong Baptist University i-Financial Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, iSQUARE, Jordan, Kowloon Station Elements, Olympian City, Plaza Hollywood, and Whampoa Garden all in Kowloon.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University i-Financial Centre, Park Central, and Yuen Long Yoho Mall branches in New Territories will also be unavailable.

ATMs located within closed branches will also not be available. However, BEA’s remaining 200 ATMs across Hong Kong will not be affected by the branch closures, and customers will still be able to use all functioning JETCO ATMs in the city.

Clients are encouraged to use the bank’s internet and phone banking services, the BEA App, or visit any of the 52 branches that will remain in operation.
