HSBC appoints Wing Tai Properties CEO as independent non-executive director

Cheng has also been named to HSBC’s remuneration committee and risk committee.

HSBC has named Edward Wai Sun Cheng as independent non-executive director of the bank, effective 18 May.

Cheng has also been named to the bank’s Remuneration Committee and Risk Committee.

Cheng is currently the deputy chairman and chief executive of Wing Tai Properties Limited, and chairman of Lanson Place Hospitality Management.
He has also held executive roles at the Huchinson Whampoa Limited and Wharf Holdings, according to HSBC.

Cheng has also served on the boards of companies and organizations across different industries. He has previously served as independent non-executive director of Standard Chartered Hong Kong; and Television Broadcasts Limited and Orient Overseas (International) Limited. 

He was also formerly as a non-executive director of the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong’ as well as Board member of The Airport Authority Hong Kong, and Chairman of the Urban Renewal Authority and the University Grants Committee, to round-off his 37 years of executive and board experience.
