Malaysian banks post solid domestic loan growth

But Indonesia posted the best performance.

According to CLSA, of the three main geographic exposures, Indonesia posed the best performance on the back of consumer lending andcommercial lending. Corporate lending continues to be relatively weak.

Here's more from CLSA:

Some of this weakness is deliberate as CIMB is trying to reduce its exposure to the coal segment and it is managing its growth carefully.

Maybank Singapore’s QoQ loan growth was weak at 1.4% but this was more than offset by a robust 15% QoQ performance at CIMB. All three banks had solid domestic loan growth.

By our calculations CIMB, Maybank and RHB Capital gained domestic market share in 2Q13. Growth came primarily from consumer and commercial or business banking.
