NAB launches 24/7 security hub to tackle cyber and fraud threats

It will enable the bank to share information and identify threats in real-time, NAB said.

National Australia Bank (NAB) has launched NAB Nexus, a 24/7 integrated operations hub with frontline responders to respond to technology and security issues.

NAB Nexus brings together frontline responders across technology, cybersecurity, fraud, payments, and physical security, enabling the bank to share information and identify threat actors in real-time.

It will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, NAB said.

Combined scam losses in Australia reached A$2.18b in 2025. The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) received over 84,700 cybercrime reports between 2024 and 2025.

The rise of new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), which is lowering the barrier for criminals to operate at scale, said NAB chief security officer Sandro Bucchianeri.

“These threats don’t sit neatly in one box. A scam attempt, fraud event, cyber incident or payments issue can quickly intersect,” Bucchianeri said.

NAB Group CEO Andrew Irvine said that mitigating threats to customers’ money and data must be a team effort.

“AI is going to do a lot of great things for how we live and how we work, but at the same time, AI is also going to help criminals and their threats much faster than when it was a human-only environment,” Irvine said.

In FY2025, NAB invested over A$900m in fraud, scams, cyber and financial crime protections.
