
SMBC Aviation Capital joins holding company acquiring Air Lease Corporation
SMBC Aviation Capital will have a 4.99% equity interest in the holding company.
SMBC Aviation Capital is participating in the acquisition of Air Lease Corporation, a US-based aircraft leasing company.
SMBC Aviation Capital is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) and Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Company.
The company will execute the acquisition through a new holding company, Sumisho Air Lease Corporation, which will acquire all outstanding shares of ALC.
Sumisho Air Lease will be co-owned by three other parties: Sumitomo Corporation, Apollo managed funds, and Brookfield. SMBC Aviation Capital’s equity interest in Sumisho Air Lease will be 4.99% on a voting-rights basis and 24.99% on an economic-interest basis.
Air Lease Corporation was founded in 2010 and listed in the New York Stock Exchange in 2011. It has approximately $33.3b in total assets as of 30 June 2025.
