Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group’s profits up 43.3% in 9M FY2024

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) reported a profit attributable to owners of the company of JPY1.135t (approximately $7.46b) for the nine-month period that ended on 31 December 2025, a 43.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
In contrast, the Japanese megabank earned JPY792.83b ($5.21b) in the 9M FY2023 period.
Earnings per share (diluted) is JPY289.92 for 9M FY2024, higher than the JPY198.18 given out for 9M FY2023.
As of December 2024, SMBC has JPY31.85t (nearly $298.26b) in total assets, with a net asset ratio of 4.9%.
SMFG has unchanged its earnings forecast for FY2024: JPY1.160t for the fiscal year ending on 31 March 2025, with estimated earnings per share of JPY299.48.
