Westpac’s CEO set to testify at senate competition inquiry

Gail Kelly is expected to follow her rivals to argue that Australian retail banking competition is strong.

Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly will appear before the Senate's inquiry into banking sector competition this Friday.

Mrs Kelly’s appearance will round out the major bank bosses who will give evidence.

The Westpac chief was forced to postpone her appearance before the committee in December because of the death of her mother in South Africa.

Mrs Kelly was rescheduled to attend the hearing’s meeting in Brisbane next week, but the flooding crisis postponed the inquiry.

Instead, the committee will now meet in Sydney on Friday.

Mrs Kelly is the fourth major bank boss, following CBA’s Ralph Norris, NAB’s Cameron Clyne and ANZ’s Mike Smith, to give evidence.
