Woori Bank to choose president from 6 bets

The group said the selected president to be approved by the board in mid-March.

Woori Finance Holdings Co., Korea’s No. 2 banking group, said on Friday that it has accepted applications from six candidates for the new presidency of its flagship banking unit.

The state-run banking group said its seven-member special presidential selection committee has completed the acceptance of applications to lead Woori Bank, the second-largest lender in Korea, a three-year term.

Woori Bank is currently headed by Lee Chong-hwi, whose term ends in late March.

The selection comes as incumbent group Chairman Lee Pal-seung was nominated to head Woori Finance for another three years in an effort to help accelerate the stalled privatization of the banking group.
