HSBC appoints Guy Harvey-Samuel as CEO in Singapore

Mr Harvey-Samuel takes over from Alex Hungate.

According to a release, Guy Harvey-Samuel has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Singapore. Mr Harvey-Samuel completed a posting lasting almost four years in the Lion City until 2010, before he took up his previous role as Head of International Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

Peter Wong, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Asia Pacific, said: “Guy is no stranger to Singapore. His time as CEO Singapore was a seminal time when we grew market shares in personal banking and commercial banking to complement our strong Global Banking and Markets business here. Singapore is a priority market for HSBC Group. I am confident our operations will make further progress under Guy’s leadership.”

Mr Harvey-Samuel takes over from Alex Hungate, who has decided to leave HSBC to pursue interests outside the financial services industry.

Guy joined HSBC in 1978 and has worked in 12 different countries and geographies across the world, with roles including senior management appointments in Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the UK. He will remain a member of the Executive Committee of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, a role he retains from his previous appointment. He has spent a considerable part of his career in roles in Global Markets, consumer banking and corporate and commercial banking.

Mr Harvey-Samuel said: “I'm very happy to be returning to lead the Singapore team in what is a top priority country for the HSBC Group. Singapore is a tremendously exciting market that’s full of opportunities and I look forward to reconnecting with colleagues, customers and friends, both in business and in the community. It will be a source of great pride to return and work with so many talented people at HSBC Singapore.”
