BDO Capital's president shares insights on infrastructure financing in the Philippines

In a recent ASEAN meeting, ministers emphasised the need for post-COVID financial solutions in Southeast Asia, shining a spotlight on the critical issue of infrastructure financing.

Eduardo V. Francisco, President of BDO Capital and Investment Corp., a prominent player in the Philippine financial sector, spoke to Asian Business and Finance about the dynamic field of infrastructure financing in the Philippines.

He expressed optimism on the infrastructure financing landscape in the Philippines, citing a well-developed local banking market equipped with a plethora of financial solutions, ranging from syndicated loans to capital markets.

"We have these products available and services for all financing," Francisco noted.
However, he also emphasised the need for more projects from the government to fully leverage these financial solutions.

Francisco highlighted their extensive experience and strong relationships within the industry.

"We've been in the market the longest, with decades of experience. Our expertise spans various sectors, including power, toll bridges, and water," he explained.

BDO Capital has a track record of successful syndications, project finance, bond raises, and IPOs, fostering enduring relationships with regulators, investors, and sponsors.

Navigating Challenges in Philippine Infrastructure Investments

Investing in Philippine infrastructure presents unique challenges, such as complex partnerships and regulatory intricacies.

Francisco outlined BDO Capital's role in facilitating these investments, from introducing local and foreign partners to assisting with banking setup and remittances.

They also provide valuable support in structuring deals, meeting with the government, assessing viability studies, and connecting with regulators. BDO Capital offers a comprehensive solution to overcome hurdles faced by fund managers and investors.

BDO Capital is presently involved in and exploring various types of infrastructure projects. "The power sector remains a significant focus, especially in renewable energy", Francisco emphasised.

Beyond power, BDO Capital is engaged in various infrastructure projects encompassing water, roads, bridges, and reclamation. Their diverse experience extends to financing, seeking investors, conducting IPOs, and issuing bonds.

Additionally, they provide advisory services to both government and private sector entities involved in PPP deals.

Looking ahead

Francisco emphasised BDO Capital's commitment to continue offering innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of their clients.

In a region where infrastructure development remains a priority, BDO Capital and Investment Corp stands as a steadfast partner, armed with decades of experience, a comprehensive portfolio of financial solutions, and an unwavering commitment to driving progress in the Philippines.
