Citi Hong Kong expands API tech in Octopus tie-up

Users of the Octopus app can easily apply for Citi Octopus Platinum Card.

Octopus Cards Limited has launched a new feature on its mobile app which enables users to apply for a Citi Octopus Platinum Card thanks to the integration of Citi's application programming interface (API) with the all-around payment app.

Users can directly apply for the Card by clicking on the promotional offer icon. Existing O! ePay Plus and O! ePay Pro customers can also submit the application form easily with the entry of basic information.

Octopus was also upgraded to enable instant upgrades to Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) auto-reload amount to $500 which Citi Octopus cardholders will be able to access first-hand.

“We are excited to be taking our collaboration to the next level by fully embracing the power of open banking to make our products and services conveniently available at more digital touchpoints,” Lawrence Li, Head of Cardsand Unsecured Lending at Citibank Hong Kong, said in a statement.

The Octopus tie-up adds to Citi's growing API ecosystem in Hong Kong which includes AIA Hong Kong, Octopus Cards Limited, HKTVmall, Visa, and Zurich Hong Kong.
