BOCHK warns customers against phishing messages, fake app

The case has been reported to the HKMA and the police.

Bank of China (Hong Kong) BOCHK is warning customers against phishing messages and a mobile application link meant to steal their banking information.

The link (dows. bochkk.com/ uploads/boc. apk) and messages have no connection to BOCHK, the bank said in a press release.

BOCHK said that the case has been reported to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Police Force.

Customers are advised to access their internet banking or mobile banking accounts by typing in BOCHK’s website address (www. bochk .com) directly in their browser adderss bar or through the BOCHK mobile app downloaded from the official app stores.

“Customers should not access such accounts or provide personal information (including passwords) through hyperlinks, QR codes or attachments embedded in SMS messages, e-mails or on websites,” BOCHK stated.

BOCHK said that it will update the fraud alerts on the bank’s website from time to time.

BOCHK urges anyone who has clicked on the aforesaid suspicious mobile application link and provided their information to immediately contact its customer service hotline at (852) 3988 2388 (press 3, # and 2 after language selection).
