ANZ customers to spend $280m in Europe travel this summer
Hotel and airline bookings surged 11% in Jan-May 2025.
The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) expects customer spending to reach $280m across June, July, and August in Europe, a 10% increase from 2024.
This follows an 11% rise in hotel and airline booking between January to May 2025, which the bank said suggests that more of its customers are seeking to go to Europe in 2025.
“We’re seeing strong growth in early planning activity and expect spending to climb 10% this season,” said Yiken Yang, ANZ managing director of everyday banking.
Whilst this may not hit the $313m peak of 2023, 2025 is shaping up as a vibrant resurgence for the travel sector, Yang said in a statement on 3 July 2025.
Yang and ANZ also observed growing interest for destinations across Asia and the Pacific.
“Aussies continue to switch out their winter with new travel experiences, with places like Japan and Thailand climbing as holiday hot spots,” Yang said.
European travel of ANZ customers dipped in 2024. In contrast, non-European destinations saw a 3% increase in spend last year.
Indonesia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Japan experienced notable growth, with Japan climbing 32.4% year-on-year, and securing a spot in the top 10 travel destinations of ANZ customers, the bank said.
