Mastercard names Richard Wormald as new APAC president in 2026

Paul Monnington will take over Wormald’s role as Australasia division president.

Mastercard has appointed Richard Wormald as president, Asia Pacific, beginning January 2026.

Wormald is currently division president, Australasia. He currently oversees the Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands markets.

Current president Ari Sarker will step down from the role after more than a decade by the end of 2025. Sarker will move to an advisory position.

Sarker and Wormald are expected to work closely together in the coming months for a smooth transition. They will “engaging with stakeholders across markets through joint appearances and shared communications,” Mastercard said in a press statement.

Paul Monnington will join Mastercard in January 2026 and take over Wormald’s role as division president, Australiasia. 

Monnington has previously led Woolworths' Wpay business and has held senior roles at Woolworths Group and National Australia Bank (NAB).
