Taiwan’s active credit cards rise to 39.24 million in June

Amount of undue balance of installment jumped 48.45%.

Taiwan has 39.24 million active credit cards across 32 credit card-issuing institutions as of end-June 2024, according to data from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).

Balance of revolving credit is $3.42b (NT$110.8b) in June, higher than the $3.35b (NT$108.5b) in end-May.

Amount of undue balance of installment is $7.24 (NT$234.7b), a 48.45% jump from the $4.88b (NT$158.1b) reported just a month earlier.

Monthly write-off related to credit cards was approximately $19.45m (NT$0.63b), whilst the average ratio of delinquency cards– past due over three months– against account receivables was 0.23%, lower than the 0.3% in May.

Cash cards fall, SVC rise
In contrast, the amount of total balance in cash cards dropped to $324.11m (NT$10.5b) in end-June across a total of 0.29 million cards issued by 13 financial institutions engaging in the cash card business. This is a slight drop from the $327.2m (NT$10.6b) balance in end-May.

The number of effective stored value cards in Taiwan totaled 182.97 million in end-June, a slight uptick from the 181.83 million cards issued as of end-May.

Of this, at least 13.54 million cards were used last month, according to data from the FSC.

The balance of stored value was $440.17m (NT$14.26b) in June.
