Total spending in China via Alipay’s overseas wallets doubled during Labor Day holiday

Alipay Tap! also saw a 50% rise in spending during the period.

Total spending by travelers in China using overseas wallets using the Alipay+ platform rose by over 100% during the 2025 Labor Day holiday (Golden Week).

AlipayHK topped the list for total spending, followed by Malaysia’s Touch ’n Go, Kazakhstan’s Kaspi.kz, Macao SAR’s MPay, and Thailand’s TrueMoney.

Alipay Tap! also recorded a rise in payments. During the holiday, travelers from 54 countries covered by China’s 240-hour visa free transit policy reportedly spent 50% more via Alipay Tap! Compared to the same period in April.

Outside of China, Chinese tourists spent the highest on average in Switzerland.

In South Korea, average spending exceeded US$100, in part driven by the growing trend of traveling for cosmetic surgery, Alipay said.

Public transit is the most frequently used Alipay service amongst Chinese travellers. Taking buses and subways is reportedly popular especially in Hong Kong and Macau.
