ANZ Bank set to unveil password-less web banking in mid-2025

Authentication will be done through biometrics or log-in request app approval.

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ Bank) is rolling out a password-less web banking feature for its digital banking platform ANZ Plus.

Slated to be launched in mid-2025, the feature enables customers to log into ANZ Plus Web Banking without a password, the Melbourne-headquartered bank said in a statement.

Customers will instead use one of two authentication methods, either a passkey—which could be their fingerprint, face or mobile device PIN— or by entering their mobile number and approving a log in request sent to ANZ Plus app.

“Not only will it be easier than ever to log into your account, we’re helping our customers bank with confidence knowing their accounts are secure,” said Maile Carnegie, ANZ group executive for Australia Retail.

ANZ also expects the password-less banking to prevent risk of data breaches and phishing attacks.

In the past, ANZ has rolled out a CallSafe feature for calls to ANZ Plus, helping customers and service teams avoid deepfakes and impostors.

ANZ is also rolling out the Digital Padlock feature in mid-2025, giving customers the ability to instantly ‘lock down’ access to their accounts if they suspect they are being targeted by cybercriminals.
