Bangkok Bank enables Paybooc QR payments in Thailand
Koreans using the Paybooc app can now make QR payments in the country.
Bangkok Bank and BC Card, a South Korean payment service provider, are launching cross-border QR payment between the two countries.
South Koreans using the Paybooc app can make QR payments in Thailand instantly. It will use real-time exchange rates, the press release said.
They plan to eventually allow Thai customers to scan and pay in South Korea as well.
This will allow Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking users to scan a QR code to pay for goods and services while traveling in South Korea, the press release said.
About 2 million South Korean tourists are expected to visit Thailand in 2025, according to Chaiyarit, senior executive vice president, Bangkok Bank.
“On the other hand, Thai tourists traveling to South Korea are considered a high-spending group, with an average expenditure of around THB59,000 per trip. The Cross-Border QR Payment service is a crucial piece of the picture for promoting the tourism economies of both countries,” Chaiyarit said.
Bangkok Bank now has network partnerships for its QR payment services in eight markets: Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Cambodia (inbound service only).
