
Taiwan’s ATM, money transaction volumes outperform global averages
Over 93.3% of Taiwanese adults have a bank account, higher than 76.2% globally.
Taiwan’s financial inclusion indicators— particularly on bank branches, ATMs, and mobile money transactions—outperformed global averages in 2024.
Taiwan reported an average of 17 bank branches and 165 automated teller machines (ATMs) per 100,000 adults, higher than global averages of 16.2 bank branches and 52.5 ATMs, according to a July 2025 report by The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).
It also logged 5.619 million mobile money transactions per 100,000 adults in Taiwan, higher than the global average of 4.719 million transactions.
Over 93.3% of Taiwanese adults had a bank account and 81.6% have used digital payments— higher than 76.2% and 64% globally.
Per 1,000 adults, there were 738 life insurance policy holders, far higher than the global average of 337.
Taiwan also surpassed its targets in 2024. It sold 8.32 million insurance policies sold online last year, surpassing its target of 6 million.
It also accumulated 1.89 million micro-insurance policy holders, compared to the target of 1.75 million.
