Mobile POS to grow to $4.9t by 2030 on growing card use

Shift from fixed POS terminals at checkouts will also drive its growth.

Mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) transactions will grow to $4.9t globally by 2030, from just $2.7t in 2025, according to estimates by Juniper Research.

This will come on the back of a shift from fixed POS terminals at checkouts as retail stores evolve; as well as growing card acceptance in emerging markets, it said.

The mPOS will be resilient versus dramatic soft POS growth because it offers dedicated hardware, making it better suited for traditional retail and hospitality environments, Juniper Research said.

Soft POS is where the smartphone or tablet itself is used to collect a contactless payment.

The mPOS in particular is expected to drive the expansion of card payments in emerging markets, particularly within Africa, Juniper Research said.
