GCash launches tap to pay for 150 million Mastercard locations
The service uses Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.
GCash has launched Tap to Pay, a contactless payment feature that allows users to pay at more than 150 million Mastercard locations worldwide.
The service uses Near Field Communications (NFC) technology and is enabled through a partnership with Alipay+ and Mastercard.
GCash is among the first Alipay+ partners to offer NFC payments, which can be made directly from users’ e-wallets without requiring a credit or debit card.
The feature works on NFC-enabled Android phones and complements GCash’s existing QR payment option available in over 50 destinations.
Security measures such as authentication protocols and data encryption are built in to protect transactions.
GCash said the move expands payment options for its users both locally and abroad whilst reducing reliance on cash and physical cards.
