Alipay+ enables overseas tap-to-pay service for Kakao Pay users

Kakao Pay users can now make NFC payments at Mastercard merchants worldwide.

Alipay+ and Mastercard is bringing NFC (near-field communication) payments for overseas transactions to South Korean mobile wallet users of Kakao Pay.

With this, Kakao Pay users can make NFC or “tap-to-pay” payments at over 150 million Mastercard merchant locations globally, including Japan, Southeast Asia, the US, Europe, Oceana, and more.

Kakao Pay is the first Alipay+ mobile payments partner to introduce the “tap-to-pay” service for its users travelling abroad, Ant International said in a press release.

NFC payments allow users to simply tap their NFC-enabled Android phone on a contactless POS terminal that accepts Mastercard.
