The Philippines’ Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) has launched a digital fare payments proof-of-concept, supported by the central bank and the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).

The proof-of-concept allows commuters to pay using card, mobile wallets, and GCash QR codes to access LRT-2 transport services, according to a statement by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Commuters can use most debit, credit, and prepaid cards to pay. It will also accept NFC compatible mobile wallets and devices, including Google Pay, and GCash QR codes.

It will also accept MY SSS cards, which number at approximately 700,000, the BSP said.

"With a simple tap or scan, a commuter on LRT-2 can now pay their fare digitally, securely, instantly, and without cash,” said Mamerto Tangonan, BSP deputy governor.
