MUFG tops APAC M&A in H1 on four megadeals

Last year’s top performer Morgan Stanley is second with double-digit value and volume declines.

Mitsubishi UFJH Financial is the top financial advisor for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the Asia Pacific region during the first six months of 2026, according to GlobalData.

The Japanese megabank topped M&A advisory in both value and deal volume, advising nearly $40.02b across 23 deals—over threefold (264%) higher than the same period last year, the data and analytics company said.

MUFJ advised four billion-dollar deals that included a megadeal valued more than $10b, said GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose.

“Resultantly, its ranking by volume jumped from the 16th position in H1 2025 to the top position in H1 2026, and its ranking by value rose from the third position to the top position,” Bose said.

Morgan Stanley, last year’s top M&A advisor, finished second with both deal value and volume declining during the six month period. Morgan Stanley’s deal value was $17.58b across 17 deals, with value declining 49% and deal volume falling 55.3%.

JPMorgan closed out the top three, advising $13.18m across 3 deals.

Investment banking M&A in APAC excluding Japan rose to a four year high in H1 2026, according to separate data from LSEG. There were more large deals during the period, the report said.
